LOAD 214: Mythbusters...or not

This year, the theme of the February Load was Mythbusters.  Lain gave a prompt every day about something that people think is a rule of scrapbooking, and we tried to break it.  I did finish a layout everyday, but I can't say that I busted many myths.  We were out of town for a whole week, and it was really hard just to keep up much less try to stay on the prompt.

Here are all the layouts from last month's LOAD that I haven't already shared.

Looking Back on Disney

Last month, I shared the prep work that I did to prepare for scrapping on the road at Disney, so I thought I'd come back and share what I came home with.

This is the cover page.  I left it pretty simple, and decided to title it Orlando 2014 because I'm going to keep this same mini album going for all our trips to see my sister in law (and The Mouse of course) this year. This page and the second one got a little crumpled (the danger of letting a 1-year-old handle my books)  Most of the pictures I used in the book were printed using my Polaroid Z2300 camera, but it won't print pictures taken on my phone.  I only took phone pictures on our trip down, so I had to do this page in digi.

Our first day in Florida, was spent at home with Crystal and the puppies.

Crystal was off work on the Monday that we were there, so she got to come to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure with us. Yay for Harry Potter!

We went back again without Crystal the next day. The kiddos were super tired by the end of the day.

Wednesday was a lazy morning followed by a show at Animal Kingdom in the afternoon, but Thursday was a full day at MGM and Epcot.

Is it bad that I love taking pictures of them passed out together in the stroller?  Looking back now, I know that I should have let them rest on Friday, but I can never leave well enough alone, so we went to Magic Kingdom in the morning before we started the drive home.

I love that using the Honey Project Life Core kit, there are lots of colors and patterns, but it's still a very simple thing to put together.  I was pretty happy wit the simplicity of this system, and I'm going to mostly stick to it for the rest of the trips, except that I won't bring as many embellishments with me in the future. There is so much going on with the cards and photos by themselves, that it really didn't need many more embellishments, and any additional embellishing that I did want to do, I could do at home after the trip.

With my $20 gift card from the MOC at the Lilypad, I bought several sets from Project Mouse.

I'll be alternating between the Project Mouse set an the Project Life Honey Edition Core Kit for our trips this year.

I'd love to see what you're doing to document Disney or how you're using your 6x8 project life binders.  Leave me a comment or link to your project below!

February 2014 Round Up

Katie the Scrapbook Lady has been doing a monthly round up on her blog for a long time now, but this year she really simplified it, so I'm doing it along with her.  She usually includes pictures, but I've realized that it's enough just for me to answer the questions.

  • List what you watched, read, and/or listened to in the past month
    • I checked out some audiobooks from the library for our drive down to Orlando.  We listened to Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox and The Demigod Files (in the Percy Jackson series)
    • When we were at Disney, I realized that my girls didn't know lots of the characters they met.  When we came back home, I got them The Little Mermaid, and now Arial is one of Lilah's new favorite people.
  • What fun things did you do with friends and/or family?
    • Road Trip to Florida
      • Spent time with Cliff and Crystal
      • Went 2 days to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure (1 day with Crystal)
        • saw the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
        • Had Butterbeer
        • Bought candy from Honeydukes
      • Animal Kingdom
        • Saw Finding Nemo the Musical: it was awesome with puppets similar to those in the Lion King show
        • Went on the Triceratops Ride
        • Took pictures with the Tree of Life
      • Hollywood Studios and Epcot
        • Met: Donald, Pluto, Jake, Lightning McQueen, Mater, Minnie, Goofy, and Mickey
        • Watched: Beauty and the Beast Live Show, The Little Mermaid Show, Driving Stunt Show, Illuminations
      • Magic Kingdom
        • Met: Aurora, Cinderella, Ariel
        • Rode: The Carousel, Dumbo, The Little Mermaid Ride, Peter Pan
        • Watched: Philharmagic, Dreams Come True (Show in front of the Castle)
  • What milestones occurred? Any holidays or celebrations? How about special events?
    • Lilah turned 3, and we had her party at Chuck E Cheese because our house was under construction. There were 17 people there! I couldn't believe there were so many.
  • Talk about the everyday and routine bits of life in the past month
    • We didn't have a bathtub for most of the month, so the girls took baths in a plastic storage bin in the shower in the basement (Lilah won't take a shower because she doesn't like water on her head).
      • Michaela loved those baths: she had her own perfectly sized Jacuzzi.
    • Everybody in the house was sick at one point or another.
    • The kitchen and dining room were out of commission because they were being renovated.
  • What good stuff happened? What were the hard things? Anything unusual?
    • Work started on lots of big projects in the house
    • Lilah started learning some basic reading skills (sounding out words)
  • Report on the progress you’ve made toward your goals or list any new goals you have set
    • I finished LOAD
    • We took our first trip to Florida of the 4 we have planned for the year.

March Counterfeit Kit: Where's the Sunshine?

If you're anything like me, then you are completely sick of winter.  Every time I think that this cold weather is going to leave us for a time, the weather people say another storm is coming!  The forecast for tomorrow is calling for 8-14 inches. In MARCH!

So, when I saw the inspiration kit at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog, all I could think of was, "I wish I had some sunny pictures to scrap."

I pulled together my own approximation of the kit, and I'm calling it: Where's the Sunshine.

When I started looking at the kit, I realized that it looks a lot like my 3 Scrappy Boys March Add On.  If you can't figure how to pull this look from your stash, but you really want it, maybe you should consider that one.

I'll be playing with all these beautiful supplies this month as I daydream of the sunshine to come...hopefully sooner rather than later.
